The owner of a large Victorian townhouse undertook a whole-house redesign project, wanting to transform the tired and drab interior into a stylish sanctuary punctuated with fun pops of colour throughout. They turned to Donna Collins, interior designer at Dot Projects, to bring their vision to life.
For the bathroom, the brief was to create a beautiful and calming space with a chic Parisian twist. Donna used
London Basin Company’s striking Marnie Yellow basin as the starting point for the master bathroom design; featuring a kaleidoscopic pattern of blue, pink and green against a vibrant yellow, the Marnie immediately commands the room and injects a sunny exuberance. In keeping with the theme, the bathroom is swathed in calming neutral tones elsewhere, cleverly injected with colour from the two basins and an adjoining WC area painted in an equally bold yellow to match.
Providing maximum visual impact, a dividing wall creates a dramatic backdrop for the two basins, each complemented by matching wall-mounted taps and mirrors. “The Marnie basins were a must-have from the beginning. The client had absolutely fallen in love with them, so we designed the whole space around them. The room divider sits in the middle of the room – giving the yellow basins pride of place as you enter the bathroom from the bedroom while allowing for a private double shower area behind it,” explains Donna. “On this divider wall, we used smaller format zellige-style brick tiles in a mixture of square and rectangular shapes to add subtle interest, along with curved mirrors. This created the perfect backdrop for the yellow basins.”
The result is a bathroom that hits the brief and perfectly emulates a chic and serene Parisian look with a playful edge. “We were able to combine the best of both worlds - the charm of a period property with the sophistication of Parisian style,” she says. “The basins from London Basin Company encapsulated a lot of what we wanted to create here and throughout the whole house – high quality, beautifully detailed and a lot of fun!’
