Naturally Bold: the Aubrey

Combining pattern, colour and texture in the bathroom needn’t be overwhelming; when executed well, incorporating a variety of styles in bathroom design can create a space that is both invigorating and exciting yet serene and relaxing. Angelina Dipino, interior designer at US-based DKOR Interiors, achieved just that in this postmodernist newbuild bathroom in Miami, Florida. She chose the Aubrey basin from London Basin Company to accompany a palette of muted pink, green and earthy tones elevated by a variety of textures, patterns and beautiful, modern finishes.

As she was utilising such a range of colours, styles and finishes, finding the middle ground between invigorating and calming was important to Angela: “In this project, the bathroom features an exciting interplay of colors and textures along with sleek finishes,” she says. “I wanted to integrate lively colors in a way that complements the overall serene atmosphere, not to take away from it. Striking a balance to create an uplifting energy with a relaxing, contemporary feel was key.”

Nature-inspired elements help to deliver a relaxing quality that Angela and her clients desired. Sitting atop a beautiful green marble bathroom countertop is the Aubrey basin; featuring a basket-weave textured finish inspired by the pretty woven rattan and seagrass baskets found across Asia, the organic yet playful nature of Aubrey is echoed by the pink matte textured wallpaper and checkered tiled splashback, both of which also have a woven effect with a natural look.

Counteracting the earthy, organic features are sleek, rounded accessories, such as the reeded shower panel, glass orb pendant lights and striking oval mirror. These more punchy contemporary elements, combined with a mix of complementing colours are in keeping with the modern style of the home, and bring invigorating edge to the design.
